New Fairfield High School Athletic Hall of Fame

Purpose Statement

New Fairfield High School’s Athletic Hall of Fame is for the purpose of recognizing individuals who have performed with extraordinary distinction and/or have been instrumental in the overall development and success of the New Fairfield High School Athletic Program.

 Selection Committee

 The New Fairfield Hall of Fame Selection Committee shall be chaired by the Director of Athletics and shall consist of the following persons:

  • Director of Athletics

  • High School Principal and/or designee

  • Members of the Hall of Fame Committee

Eligibility

Criteria for Membership as an Athlete:

  • Recipient must be a graduate of NFHS.

  • Recipient must have graduated at least five years previous to the nomination.

  • Recipient must have exceptionally distinguished herself/himself at a high level in the field of sports, sportsmanship, and citizenship at NFHS and/or after graduation.

Criteria for Membership as a Contributor

  • Recipient must have worked for NFHS for a minimum of five years.

  • Recipient must have made a significant contribution to the advancement of the interscholastic sports program.

  • Recipient must have demonstrated extraordinary dedication to and support of the interscholastic athletic program.  

Nominations

  • Nominations for potential candidates shall be accepted by the Selection Committee from any member of the New Fairfield Community or NFHS staff member who fills out the Rebel Athletics Nomination Form. Self-nominations are not permissible.

  • In order to be considered for nomination to the Athletic Hall of Fame, a detailed biography of the nominee’s athletic accomplishments and/or contributions to the overall development of the athletic program must be completed on the form.

  • Individuals nominating a candidate may request their name remain anonymous.  The Athletic Council will honor this request, however, the nominator’s name must appear on the written nomination form. 

  • An 8X10 photograph of the nominee must be provided for inclusion on the Hall of Fame plaque.

  • Incomplete application packets will not be considered.

  • The Selection Committee will rank the top nominees in a list.  Any of the nominees not selected from this list will stay in consideration for a period of six years.

  • Nominations for induction in the current school year must be received by the Athletic Director no later than February 1.

     

Selection Process

  • The selection committee has sole authority to determine the selection of Inductees into the Hall of Fame.

  • The selection committee may not nominate family members or relatives. 

  • The size of each induction class shall be no greater than three inductees.

  • No minimum quota of inductees.

  • Nominators and nominees shall be informed of the committee’s decision.

  • Voting and Ranking - A majority of the committee must nominate a candidate for final consideration.  A candidate must receive a majority vote to be named to the Hall of Fame.  

  Induction

  • Induction ceremonies shall take place at a mutually agreed upon time and place by the inductee and the Athletic Director.

  • Inductees will be posted on the New Fairfield High School website and social media platforms.

  • Information on the plaque will be compiled by the council and approved by the inductee. 

  • Two plaques will be funded by the NFHS Athletic Department; one for the school and one for the inductee.
